ATB RIVA CALZONI LABORATORY and NDT facilities are requisite units for the main core business of the firm.

These units, rooted in the quality department and born around 1920, are developed with the firm growth until today when new available resources authorize continual improvement in machineries and devices in order to have always the better approach in the direction of new production methods and new firm demands.

In NDT field, for the radiography of heavy wall pressure vessels, ATB has since 1982 two linear accelerators, one in ATB Roncadelle plant and one in ATB Marghera plant; each one of these equipments has the dedicated safety bunker with 2.5 meters barite concrete target wall in line with the production department.

The first one in Roncadelle, has a 6 MeV shooting power and the second in Marghera plant has 9 MeV shooting power.

 
ATB has also some ordinal radiographic equipments for lower thickness used in the bunkers.
In ultrasonic skills ATB technicians have very big experience made on heavy wall pressure vessels;  they can offer their capabilities both in ferritic and austenitic material controls, and austenitic layered material.
Dye penetrant examination and magnetic tests are routine test that in ATB are normally performed on bevel edges and on the weld surfaces.
All these controls made by EN-473 ISO-4712 certified technicians together with the capability of fitness for project procedures issuing, are the main basis for the certainty of big quality final products.

In the laboratory shop two numerical control machines provide the specimens preparation with very controlled dimensions and shapes and with very quick production for a big number of tests. A large number of cutting machines provide quick cutting strategy.

Two big furnaces are dedicated to heat treatment of weld coupons and a step cooling dedicated furnace provides the typical treatment test.

In the mechanical hall four tensile machines 120t, 60t, 20t, and 10t with two furnaces for cylindrical tensile specimens together with two impact Charpy machines calibrated according NIST specification and three hardness test machines and a “Pellini” drop weight machine test accomplish the outfit.

In the chemical hall, automatic specimen preparation machines provide quick test samples and fast chemical etching.
A separate equipment provides corrosion tests, and another one provides chemical etching for wet analysis.
In another chemical hall a microscope with a power up to 1000 magnifications provides structures studies and grain typifying studies; one atomic absorption one carbon and sulphur determination equipment and a phosphorus determination equipment are used for the determination of the chemical elements in examination.
