The use in production of the materials normally worked by ATB requires that close relationship are developed with engineering companies, process licensors and main material suppliers to follow their continuous upgrading requirements relevant to base metal and welding materials.
The above requires that a continuous investment upgrading program is in place with a special for attention to research programs dedicated to welding technologies.
Since the early days, ATB has always encouraged development of new welding technology by having its welding school.
To this purpose we point out that in the early 90’s, ATB has been one of the leading manufacturers that developed a research program finance by the CECA, the European Community agency involved in steel production research jointly main materials supplies to implement the use of Cr Mo V modified steel for manufacturing of pressure vessels. This material has become now the design standard for new generation high pressure and high temperature reactors for “hydro-processing” application.
Further ATB achieved the challenges of 9% Ni, making possible the welding of high wall thickness 9% Ni and implemented in the factory the necessary security measures to manage Nickel based materials.

Over more than 30 years, special attention has been paid to weld overlay engineering to meet the severest conditions in terms of design temperature, design pressure and hydrogen partial pressure. The above has been supported by an extensive disbonding test research program.

 
As a continuation of the above high profile tradition, the ATB welding school has been re activated since January 2006.
